Coastal Dynamics Field Course for Teachers

This course will give current and future teachers a background in coastal sciences, hands-on experience in conducting coastal research, and learning about local and Indigenous ways of knowing—all while visiting some of the most stunning landscapes Alaska has to offer. 

Participants will devise and pilot portions of a coastal curriculum to local students in Chignik Bay as part of a 2-day camp. College credits or professional development credits are available to all participants.

Course includes:

  • Travel assistance from Anchorage to Homer, the Chigniks, returning to Anchorage and per diem (for business portion only). Airfare to and from Anchorage not included.
  • Travel stipend ($500 for students, $1000 for teachers)

UAF credits available upon successful completion of the field course and assignments:

  • ENVI 250 for undergraduate students  (3 credits)
  • ED 595 for professional development  (3 credits)
